Website Testing India

ACID and ICES tests: Regardless of the form of money, there are two distinct sets of properties to consider in a money transfer: the ACID test (atomicity, consistency, isolation, durability) and the ICES test (interoperability conservation, economy, scalability).

The ACID test addresses the following important properties of money transfer

(i) Atomicity. This test says that a transaction must occur completely or not at all.

(ii) Consistency. All parties involved in the transaction must agree to the exchange. For example, in a customer-retailer relationship involving a purchase, the customer must agree to purchase the good for a specific price and the merchant must agree to sell it at that price, otherwise, there is no basis for exchange.

(iii) Isolation. Each transaction must be independent of any other transaction and be treated as a stand-alone episode.

(iv) Durability. It must always be possible to recover the last consistent state or reverse the facts of the exchange. This means reversing charges in the event the customer changes his or her mind.

The ICES test addresses the following four important properties of money transfer:

(i) Interoperability. It is the ability to move back and forth between different systems.

(ii) Conservation. How well money holds its value over time (temporal consistency) and how easy money is to store and access (temporal durability).

(iii) Economy. Processing a transaction should be inexpensive and affordable. This property has a direct relationship to the size of the transaction. For example, a Rs. 10,000 purchase costing only Rs. 90 to process is quite economical. If the charge is the same for a Rs 5 item, it may be considered expensive. In banking, for example, wiring money from one bank to another usually costs a fixed amount of money, regardless of the amount of money transferred.

(iv) Scalability. This test refers to the ability of the system to handle multiple users at the same time.
